According to a report on MMAMania, Jake Shields (21-4—1) will defend his EliteXC welterweight tile against former UFC and WEC fighter John Alessio (23-11) at “EliteXC Showdown” on Sept. 20 from the PIT in Albuquerque, NM.

Alessio is coming off a submission win over Pete Sprat at Banner Promotions “Night of Combat” on June 20th. After winning three strait fights in the WEC, he dropped a DQ (knee to downed opponent) loss to Brock Larson at WEC 33 earlier this year.

Shields, the Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu trained fighter, recently defeated Nick “The Goat” Thompson by impressive guillotine choke submission at “EliteXC Unfinished Business”.
