Dana White: UFC 92 Crushes PPV Expectations

In a recent interview with UFC President Dana White, UFC 92 has crushed UFC expectations of PPV buys:

“I think [Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn on January 31 is] going to be the biggest fight we’ve ever done. The last Lesnar pay-per-view did really well, and then our Dec. 27 show crushed it.”

“I don’t want to get into numbers too much–that’s our policy. But it crushed it. I’ll say this: The Christmas show crushed the Lesnar fight by 150,000-175,000 buys… We lowballed our pre-flight estimates on that card and were blown away.”

“I think what happened was two things. One, it was a kick-ass card. Two, I think we were a little off because of the holidays. I guess everybody thought, you’re burnt out by everything, what do you want to do? You want to get back together with your buddies and watch some fights.”

“We were crapping our pants when the calendar came up when we saw the last Saturday of the year fell two days after Christmas. Then the economy went down. We didn’t know exactly what to expect. But we were surprised by how well it did.”

  1. No matter what BJ and GSP do, from the sounds of the possible fights at UFC 100 that card will destroy any UFC PPV and set a record that can never be reached again, but it is cool that more and more people are getting into this. I think its safe to say at least where I am from that more people watch MMA than Boxing.

  2. ufc 100 will make the most money hands down and will kill everything…

Wow it killed Lesnar and Randy ha….That fight was 4 or 5 with the highest shows…i think this one is going to be first or 2

  3. Well it should be a stacked card or at least 3 killer fights with top names on it, the UFC/Dana really needs to get this organized as this could turn out to be either the best UFC ever from a fight and money stand to a bust as well…but honestly being UFC 100 i am sure it would still rake in the top 5 ever for buys.

  4. maybe dana will learn that if you stack the cards you will get the buys, randy vs lesnar ended up being the 2nd highest ppv and this one crushed it so its probally the highest ever and if he would just keep stacking the cards i am sure they would all do well no more on top fight and a bunch of fillers no less than 3 big fights and ufc 100 should be stacked from the undercard up.

  5. Shogun of Harlem says:

i want to see Rashad Evans fight Anderson Silva next for the title.
