Dana White: Signing Fedor Is My Obsession – Video

  1. CobraClutch says:

Looks like Dana was liking the bragging factor until the interviewer reminded him of the legal ramifications, and then he shut right up and took the politically correct road. They're so talking, you can tell. This is a good thing, too, because once Fedor finally gets in the UFC everyone can be quiet about him, because he'll fight all the top guys at the time and settle the argument once and for all. First fight will be Frank Mir, I think.

  2. Why would Mir be the first Fedor fight?

  3. That interviewer was such a Tabloid / TMZ scumbag, trying to start smack. It's pathetic.

I think Fedor's first would be a HW that is not considered top 5 in that outfit, may be Nelson or Congo, they would want to build it up and there is plenty kindling for that.

  4. You guys are so wrong. Fedor would fight Lesnar right out of the gate. They're not going to sign him and then risk that he gets injured or even loses to some second level talent. They would lose millions on a deal like that. They would have the big fight right away. That's where the known money is. Dana White is not Scott Coker.

  5. That's a good point, but I could only see that if they first devoted 8 months of marketing to the bout. Preliminary bouts build a fighters reputation among that organizations fans and although all MMA hardcore fans know who Fedor is, the general public and most UFC fans may have no inkling as to who he is and what he means to the sport. Months of marketing or preliminary bouts vs. up and comers is pretty similar since fighters get injured in training on a common basis.

  6. @Todd: Most new elites fighters always get a warm up guy. Rampage got Marvin Eastman, Silva got Leben, Shogun got Forrest at a time when forrest looked average (ended up not a warm up but a beating for shogun), Crocop got Eddie Sanchez etc etc.

I do agree with you though that if fedor joined Dana would be looking to make big fights straight away. I would guess at Randy Couture would be the first fight. Longly over due fight that would bring in the money and a fight Fedor would be favourite in due to Randys age.

  7. CobraClutch says:

I think Mir would be first in line, because he's been asking for Fedor for a while. Also, Mir can't beat the big dudes right now (Lesnar/Carwin). He needs to prove himself again against people like Nelson.

Todd: I can guarantee you that they won't sign Fedor and immediately give him a title shot. That would be a spit in the face of every single other fighter who didn't walk in and get a title shot. They signed Gomi, and didn't throw him in with BJ right away. They gave him a tough fight with KenFlo and couldn't hang.

I also highly doubt the UFC is afraid of Fedor losing to mid-level talent like Gonzaga. Hahaha. And if Fedor does, then Dana wins, too, because he'll be "right" that Fedor can't hang with the "top level talent" that the UFC has on their roster.

You have the EARN your way in an organization and Dana already said he didn't want a "one and done" super fight. He wants Fedor and M-1 to also prove themselves and their stability. M-1 seems to be slick a-holes, too. They are under contract with Strikeforce and only had one fight, and now they're trying to renogotiate, which is why Rodgers is fighting for the title shot, not Fedor. Strikeforce doesn't want their belt locked up in contract disputes and have to go through "interim titles" like the UFC seems to love doing.

  8. At the time the UFC signed Brock Lesnar, it was huge news and Dana took advantage by pitting him against Mir in his first fight. Then he fought Herring after the loss, then he fought Couture, and then Mir again. I could see him giving him one match against a Mir or Couture to introduce him to the UFC fans who don't follow the sport as a whole and don't know much about Fedor – but after that, he would almost have to set up a title fight.

  9. UFC has the best talent right now. they pretty much have ereryone except mousasi and fedor. forget about dan henderson. jake shields is coming soon to the ufc. the DREAM fighters cant hang with the UFC. look at what happened to takanori gomi, and he was destroying fighters in japan. even cro cop was scared of

  10. If UFC signs Fedor, they would not "Win" if he lost, thats just so stupid, its beyond…whatever

I think Hendo will eventually return too.

Essentially the other leauges will become Minor Leauges for fighters trying to put their game back together (Houston Alexander) and up and comers (Hershel Walker & Youth).

  11. CobraClutch says:

MMA, with all due respect, you misread my statement. I didn't say "the UFC would win" I said "Dana would win" because he would be "correct." I didn't say it would be an enviable situation. And…technically, the other leagues ARE the minors if you ask me. They're trying to look like equals, but come on…the UFC is the MLB, NBA, NFL of MMA. The great fighters that are in the other leagues are only there because of contract disputes (Fedor/Hendo) or they want to be kings of a smaller pond (Overeem) or they are drugged up (Barnett).

Finally, I don't have a problem with you disagreeing with me, because you have a right to your opinion, but it helps your argument if you have reasons behind your distain for what I said, other than "that's just so stupid it's beyond…whatever." That's not how to win a debate. Hahaha. Picture Bush and Gore up there, and Gore says "We need to control the environment and watch greenhouse gas emissions." and Bush said "That's just so stupid it's beyond…whatever." Oh, wait. That did happen. :P

  12. if fedor goes to ufc they should let him take velazquez head off

  13. The difference between Fedor, Lesnar, Gomi, Cro-cop and Rampage is that Fedor is believed by most to be not only the best heavyweight, but the best pound for pound fighter in the world. It would not serve the UFC to give him a tune up that he could lose.

They need to sign him and then yes obviously market a Lesnar/Fedor fight for months(assuming Carwin doesn't take the title) prior to holding it. If they hold a tune up fight and Fedor wins, great. If he loses, first they don't make as much as they could have on the title fight, and then there is no title fight. If they hold the title fight and he loses, no harm no foul. Then fight Mir or whoever else is no 2 or 3 and then re-match for the title(assuming he wins that). Lots of money this path. If he wins the title fight first, then you have a re-match, then you have Fedor/Carwin, or Fedor/Cigano. Jackpot money this path. Fighting a tune up first is a toss up that I don't think they're going to take given Fedor's credentials. And everybody that knows this sport, knows Fedor. Think of all the free Affliction marketing for the Randy fight that never happened.

Plus, all the others were just ranked fighters(save Gomi, who hasn't beaten anybody legitimate in a long time), who had been fighting in Japan under a totally different set of rules (and no drug testing). Not only did nobody in America know who they are, they needed "tune ups" just to know where they fit in. Lesnar had no legitimate justification to even be in the UFC, let alone challenge for the title(and yes he proved the critics wrong). Even Dana White didn't know what would happen.

Gomi didn't even get a tune up. They put him in against arguably the 2nd best lightweight in the world. Not a smart move in my opinion. He should have had a tune up. Now he's a loser that nobody knows.

  14. 1. The UFC have offered Fedor more $ than any fighter on the planet.

    2. They are banking on him to take them to the next level.

    3. His hype is beyond all the other fighters combined, proof from this website alone.

    4. The only fighter they have failed to sign

    5. The Hardcore Fan favorite

    6. The $ they'd have to invest to market him

    7. Dana only speaks out against him to boost his own stable

    8. His investment would offset all the $ they've spent on marketing Lesnar.

Dana would want/need him to win at any cost.

  15. right he comes in and loses to anyone then what would they have ? nothing but money lost

  16. Oswald Gobblecock says:

Fedor alone won't take the UFC to the next level. They're fine without him. Fedor needs them more than UFC needs him. They're still by far the top company and he gets criticized for not fighting the best. There's more of an upside for him.

  17. Lol why is it that every time I see a comment from CobraClutch there's almost always a few people annoyed with him :D

  18. CobraClutch says:

Miko, I highly doubt that. Everyone has an opinion, and it may differ, but I highly doubt that I'm bugging the shit out of everyone here. There are a few other people that never receive compliments and insult other people. I think people are more annoyed by that childish behavior than my opinions. But, I am still going to post what I believe, anyways. hahaha.

It's OK to disagree with me…you'll just be wrong. ;)

  19. CobraClutch says:

    MMA:

    1. Not including boxing, I hope you mean. And that would be more of a reason to give him an upward arc. Can't just walk in and fight for the title. But that will only be decided once (and if) Fedor signs, so that's no point in going back and forth on that anymore.

    2. Never level??? See Gobblecock's posting…

    3. Combined? I highly doubt that. Only the hard core fans are hyped about him. This is why Strikeforce and Affliction had to keep selling him hard as the greatest P4P fighter in the world. Guarantee ask some random person on the street, and they know The Iceman before Fedor. And ALL the kids know Brock Lesnar.

    4. Not true.

    5. Yes, but irrelevant to the debate.

    6. This is same as point one, and it's arguable and unsolvable here on this forum.

    7. Are you Dana White? Did he tell this to you personally, or is it speculation and conjecture on your part?

    8. What numbers do you have to prove this point? I'd like to see them to back up your projections and statement.

    9. I disagree. He didn't give Gomi, Kimbo, or Lesnar a title shot in their first try. Lesnar is a WAY bigger name, but he had to EARN it. Kimbo is more "famous" than Fedor, and he had to prove his way in. Gomi was hyped by hard-core fans, and didn't get a title shot (he couldn't earn anything against KenFlo).

So, basically, you have arguable points at best, and nothing that's concrete or provable to back up your position that Fedor will get a title shot right away, but I have given you solid examples and reasons why he won't.

    I win. :)

  20. CobraClutch says:

*Typo above.. "Another Level???" not "never level" hahaha.

  21. Cobra

All your volleys are weak, but it's number 9, where you show that your a newbie and know NOTHING of MMA. No MMA Fighter on the planet is a bigger name than Fedor, The UFC has done an excellent job marketing their stable to the US and the UK, but the rest of the world that follows the fight-game knows and adores the machine. In Asia he is considered the man, the Northern countries think of him as the next Alexander Karelin, in South America his is thought of as the one fighter that may have BJJ bested, and hardcore fans (that means people that have been following this sport since the early 80's) love him for his game and his honor, which is second to none.

The basis f your argument that Dana would "win" if the biggest investment of his life, lost is truly the dumbest thing anyone has ever stated on this site.

  22. Oswald Gobblecock says:

Actually you're wrong -MMA- and showing that you're the "newbie" cause Fedor is NOT the most known MMA fighter to the main stream. This has been discussed by knowledgeable people to the sport on shows from Inside MMA to EPSNs MMA online and others. Guy's like Rampage and Chuck are actually better known than Fedor to the masses. Not just in the states and the UK.

  23. What do you base that on Oswald? and why do you use the term "main stream" which was not mentioned at any point in this discussion?

Because Rampage fought in Pride he does have much popularity throughout the global scenes, but not even close to Fedor as anyone who has traveled through Asia, South America, Africa, Australia, the EU North, Japan, and the South Pacific knows. Is it because the UFC does not air there or because there are so many fight sports in these areas and multi-fight sport pugilists like Fedor ride that much larger wave. Who can say? But to compare Rampage or Chuck to Fedors popularity outside of North America and parts of Europe only comes from someone that travels the internet. My advice would be to move around a bit so your not so clueless.

Anyone who thinks the Fedor is not the most popular MMA Fighter worldwide (By a HUGE margin) is either grossly misinformed or a shut-in.

  24. Sounds about right. I like that comparison to Karelin. Man, he would have just dominated MMA had he been born 18 years later, that would have been something to see! When I was a teenager and competing in wrestling, we used to watch a news segment on him (on VHS) that showed him carrying logs on his shoulders as he ran through snow that was waist high. Cool stuff. His loss in his final Olympics was tough but did not varnish his rep in any way.

Aside from this argument which is impossible to prove either way -MMA-, I do think your correct about Dana White. Of course no one that invests tens of millions into a product would "win" if it lost, but all the same its a moot point. Fedor is not in the UFC, so who cares?

  25. I just want to throw this out there: you guys should watch "the baddest man on the planet". It a REDONK 24/7-like documentary on Fedor. It's definitely and arguable point if he is or isn't the best p4p. But in my opinion, his mindset, his focus and his approach to training is fuckin insane. GSP trains like a motherfucker, like fighting the best in the world everyday. However, Fedor trains like a jedi. He puts in like spiritual and meditation shit. Plus his house and car's kinda crappy which I found funny.

Fedor vs. Velasquez would be a hell of a fight.

  26. Dana is all about Money and personally hope Fedor dosen't do it!!!!
