Couture Wins Legal Victory, Judgment Expected on June 2
By CagE | May 20, 2008
Randy Couture wins a legal victory, as a Dallas Judge denied Zuffa’s request to delay or dismiss a legal clarification on the wording of Couture’s contract. It now looks like we might actually get a decision on Couture’s contract by June 2.
Backed by Mark Cuban’s HDNet Fights promotion, estranged UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture nabbed a substantial victory Monday in his ongoing legal dispute against Zuffa.
The District Court of Dallas County, Texas, denied Zuffa’s three motions to stay, delay and/or dismiss HDNet’s challenge of Couture’s promotional contract, on which Zuffa says the fighter still owes two bouts.
The decision opens doors for the court to hear HDNet’s motion for a summary judgment on June 2, a date that could conceivably offer resolution on Couture’s standing as a free agent. Couture contends his promotional contract will expire in July, once the agreement reaches its 16-month conclusion.

This news is awesome! Maybe now there can actually be some “real” movement on future fights for Couture!

Substantial victory? I thought this move was all about HDNet and their attempt to get Fedor/Randy inked. It’s moot now. By the time Fedor fights again, Randy will be free by any calendar.

i’m glad we don’t have to wait much longer to get this mess cleared up.
