ICON Sport News: Lawler Striped Of Belt

ICON Sport announced in a press conference that they have striped Robbie Lawler of his ICON Sport Welterweight belt, following a year of injuries and other commitments (TUF 6, EliteXC, Starting the H.I.T Squad).

ICON Sports in owned by ProElite (EliteXC, Cage Rage, KOTC), Lawler fought Ninja Rua for the EliteXC belt last September. Striping Lawler of the title is just a move to allow ICON to have its own exclusive champion.

Now that Lawler is out of the way, ICON Sport has announced that native Hawaiian Kala Kolohe Hose will take on newly signed brawler Phil “New York Bad Ass” Baroni.

Kala Kolohe Hose has been waiting in the wings for a chance at Lawler for almost a year now. Kolohe Hose is a brawler who impressed me on the last ShoXC event, when he knocked out Frederic Belleton late in the first round.

Veteran MMA fighter Phil Baroni is a perfect match-up with Kolohe Hose, both fighters have knock out power and both like to stand and brawl.

This will be Baroni’s first fight on his recently signed multi-fight contract with Pro Elite.
