According to a report in the print addition of the Wrestling Observer newsletter, BodogFight might be exiting MMA as fast as they came in.

After losing a reputed $38 million last year, Bodog appears to be on its last legs according to a report in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Most of the company’s employees have been let go, there are no events planned (although they are sponsoring some smaller events), there is no new TV deal, and a recently proposed small budget (with the idea of slowly rebuilding) by Jeff Osborne was turned down.

If you haven’t noticed the Bodog websites are offline. According to Shoemoney,

Apparently, some guy in the US who was awarded a patent for something to do with taking bets online filed a lawsuit against Bodog awhile back. Bodog didn’t respond because they are not a US company. So a judge awarded a default judgment of 50 million.

Yesterday, the guy with the judgment used it to seize control of Bodog’s domain names from Enom. Almost all of their sites are now offline, and now they are going to loose all of their SERPS.

This is the result of a legal dispute over the ownership of the Bodog.com domain name. We are fighting this dispute. We are confident that we will win, but until all is settled, I do not want our battle to interrupt your play.

So, I present you with newbodog.com. You won’t notice very many changes: same website, same brand, same product, and same service. Just a new domain name.

We are working to resolve any remaining issues on the temporary site as soon as possible, and fully expect to have our original site back up shortly.

We will have to see the outcome of this scandal. Bodog is the leading online sports book for MMA and many websites use Bodog as an affiliate. How this will effect future Bodog MMA events is still unknown. Something as simple as a domain name could end up costing Bodog billions in sales and advertising. I don’t expect Bodog to get back the domain name anytime soon.
