Tim Sylvia vs Ray Mercer Boxing Match Not Licensed By The NJACB

Tim Sylvia

According to MMAWeekly, the proposed Tim Sylva – Ray Mercer boxing match at Adrenaline 3 has been refused the the New Jersey Athletic Control Board. The board game no reason to for not licensing the main event bout, but the likeness of a 33 year old former UFC champion knocking around a 47 year old retired fighter is likely the cause.

Adrenaline promoter and MMA agent, Monty Cox is still looking to put on the boxing match at a later date, indicating June as a possible date.

Boxing: Tim Sylvia vs. Ray Mercer

Tim Sylvia

Rumors of former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia (0-0 Boxing) fighting boxing veteran Ray Mercer (36-7-1 Boxing) are actually true, partially. Both fighter are scheduled to lock “boxing” gloves at Adrenaline’s 3 on May 30 from the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City, NJ, according to Adrenaline MMA CEO Monte Cox.

“I was doing Tim Sylvia against Ray Mercer as a headliner … First I was doing it in MMA. We changed and thought it would be a lot more interesting in boxing.”

“In boxing, who knows who is going to win … Mercer just beat a guy who is 30-2. He was ranked fifth in Europe and Mercer just beat him.”

“You just have no idea who is going to win … I don’t care if he’s 47 (years old). He’s been boxing his whole life, won an Olympic gold medal, went to split decision with Lennox Lewis. Believe me, he’s going to hit hard. Tim’s going to have a hard time.”

This rediculace matchup has even HDNet opting to not broadcast this event.

“It won’t be on HDNet,” Cox said. “I still have a deal left. But (HDNet Fights CEO) Andrew Simon decided that he didn’t want to do that show.”

“I’ve got another group that put together a deal with me where it would be available in 55 million homes and another one that’s up to 70 million homes … I’ll do one of those two.”

No Joke: Tim Sylvia vs. Ray Mercer In The Works

Tim Sylvia

Manager and Adrenaline MMA promoter Monte Cox is currently in talks to have former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia take on retired 46 year old boxer Ray Mercer in the main event of an Adrenaline MMA fightcard set for May 30th in Atlantic City, NJ.

Mercer previous MMA experience, involved being ground and pounded in an exhibition fight with Kimbo Slice back in 2007.

Has Tim Sylvia fallen this far since leaving the UFC? First he fought the P4P toughest heavyweight fighter in the world, Fedor Emelianenko last year at Affliction ‘Banned”. Now he’s looking for payday by taking on a retired former boxing champion with no MMA experience what so ever.

MMA is in a Lubed up, gay bashing, pill popping state of disarray.
