Chad Mendes, UFC featherweight was charged with battery in a California court. However, it was dismissed Monday when Mendes pleaded no-contest to a lesser charge. The fighter’s camp recently announced the news of his latest developments.
To remember, Chad Mendes was formally charged on August 24 for his alleged involvement in a bar fight in Hanford, California in July 29. The UFC fighter was faced a $2,000 fine and a sentence of up to 6 months in county jail if he faced conviction for the said crime.
Mendes however turned everything around when he plead no contest to a misdemeanor charge of fighting in a public place. According to a report from the local Hanford Sentinel, the fighter was placed on formal probation and was only fined $560 after his plea. The Hanford Sentinel was the first to report Mendes’ arrest. Reports mentioned that on the day of the incident, July 29, Mendes was seen punching another person at the Lacey Inn Bar and then he was also seen fleeing from the scene.
When he was interviewed regarding the incident, Mendes mentions in the interview: “I have said from the beginning that the ridiculous allegations published by the media were either false or incredibly sensationalized.” Mendes further adds: “[Monday’s] outcome proves it.”
Chad “Money” Mendes is a 27 year old fighter from Hanford, California, USA. He holds 12 wins and only one loss in his career. His latest win was against Cody McKenzie at UFC 148 – Silva versus Sonnen 2 in July 2012 via knockout in just 31 seconds of round 1.
