Renan Barao defeats McDonald to retain UFC Interim Bantamweight Title

The UFC on Fuel 7 proved to be an entertaining event. Renan Barao retained his interim Bantamweight title by defeating Michael McDonald with an arm triangle choke in the fourth round. However, Barao did not walk through McDonald. McDonald had some flurries in early rounds that definitely did damage to Barao. Nevertheless, in the end, Barao used all his tools and ability to put McDonald away and retain his belt.

Cub Swanson continued his winning ways with a unanimous decision over Dustin Poirier. Swanson did it with his striking, but the last round his impressive ground game sealed Poirier fate. Swanson has now rattled of 4 straight wins, and is moving atop the ranks in the featherweight division.

In other action, James Te-Huna survived a brutal leg kick upside his head by Jimmo followed by a series of nasty punches. Te-Huna quickly turned things around after weathering the storm, and took advantage of a winded Jimmo to get a unanimous decision. Gunnar Nelson and Matthew Riddle also picked up victories in their matches. Jimi Manuwa defeated Cyrille Diabate, when Diabate was unable to continue due to injury. Next up UFC 157!

Pyle & Hieron Partner Up for a Power Play

Mike Pyle was recently interviewed regarding the possibility of his leaving MMA for an acting career.

Mike restated his dedication to MMA saying he would never leave.  He does, however have some acting chops as evidenced by a well received performance in the feature film UNIVERSAL SOLDIER:REGENERATION.  At the UFC Fan Expo this past July, actor, writer, producer Paul X. Campanella asked Randy Couture to give him the names of two fighters that he felt were talented and charismatic for supporting roles in an upcoming film.

Randy quickly replied “Mike Pyle and Jay Hieron”. Paul contacted the fighters, brought them to Hollywood to meet his production team and now, both are attached to the film POWER PLAY.  The producers are relying on the loyal and rabid fan base of MMA to launch the first ever, fully funded full length feature film using Crowd Funding.  Watch the video to see all the info on how YOU the MMA fan can support this Power Play Project. “I think we can make motion picture history” stated Paul. UFC On FOX 5: Henderson Vs. Diaz Results and Post-fight Press Conference

UFC On Fox 5: Henderson Vs. Diaz brought in 14,412 fans to the Key Arena in Seattle Saturday night.

Hometown favorite Benson Henderson successfully defended his UFC Lightweight Title against Nate Diaz. The reported live gate for the show was $1.5 million.

Scott Jorgensen and John Albert won the fight of the night honors and were each awarded $65,000, and Jorgensen was also awarded the submission of the night bonus for a rear naked choke win. The knockout of the night went to Yves Edwards knockout win over Jeremy Stephens.

Seven fighters attended the UFC on FOX post-fight press conference including Benson Henderson, Nate Diaz, Rory MacDonald, Matt Brown, Alexander Gustafsson, Scott Jorgensen, and Yves Edwards.

Edwards earned Knockout of the Night for his first-round finish of Jeremy Stephens. Scott Jorgensen took home both Submission of the Night and Fight of the Night for his show-opening battle with John Albert.

All fighters received $65,000 for their bonus, with Jorgensen earning $130,000 in total.
