Welterweight No. 1 Contender to Be Named at UFC 158

Fans watching at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada will be witnesses as UFC announces its number 1 welterweight contender at UFC 158 on Saturday, March 16, 2012. UF 158 will be headlined by a welterweight explosion between Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz. St. Pierre will defend his welterweight title against former Strikeforce champ Diaz.

Dana White announced this news Thursday, in a pre-fight press conference. He mentioned that the winner of Match 11 between Johny Hendricks and Carlos Condit will be hailed as the top contender at 170 pounds.

To review Hendricks’ and Condit’s stats to prepare for this nerve-wrecking decision; Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks is a 29 year old welterweight from Ada, Oklahoma, USA. He has a superb 14 wins and only one loss record for his professional MMA career. Bigg Rigg has been undefeated for 5 consecutive matches and his recent victory was over Martin Kampmann at UFC 154 headlined by St. Pierre versus Condit. He knocked out Kampmann before the first minute of round one and that happened in November 2012. Before this spectacular win, he won over Josh Kocheck at UFC on Fox 3 Diaz versus Miller via split decision in May 2012. Hendricks’ only loss was in the hands of Rick Story via unanimous decision in UFC The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale in December 2010. He has proved to be a fighter in perfect form ever since he started his career at Masters of the Cage, HRP, WEC and when he was in Xtreme Fighting League.

And as thrilling as his name sounds; Carlos “Natural Born Killer” Condit may be the fighter that will keep Hendricks’ from getting the number 1 slot. This 28 year old welterweight fighter is from Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. He has a 28 win and 6 losses record and his last fight was a loss against St. Pierre at the UFC 154 in November 2012 via unanimous decision. But before this fight, he enjoyed 5 consecutive wins since he won against Jake Ellenberger at UFC Fight Night 18 via split decision in September 2009. He has defeated so many great fighters like Rory MacDonald, Dan Hardy, Dong Hyun Kim and Nick Diaz.

UFC 159 at the Bell Centre will also feature Jake Ellenberger versus Nate Marquardt, Chris Camozzi versus Nick Ring, Mike Ricci versus Colin Fletcher and Patrick Cote versus Bobby Voelker to name a few.

More UFC 161 News

More news from UFC camp regarding the much-awaited UFC 161 emerges before the end of the week. It is final; Jake Shields will fight Tyron Woodley in a welterweight bout that will surely thrill MMA fans all around the world.

UFC 161 which will be held at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on June 15, 2013 will feature a headline bantamweight fight between Renan Barao and Eddie Wineland. And along with this totally awaited fight are the expectation of a terrific performance from Shields who has not competed since August of 2012 after a no contest decision against Ed Herman at UFC 150 Henderson versus Edgar 2.

Jake Shields is a 34 year old fighter from San Francisco, California, USA. He has a superb professional record of 27 wins, 6 losses, 1 draw and 1 no contest. Before his dramatic no contest fight against Herman, he won over Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 144 Edgar versus Henderson via unanimous decision in February 2012. Shields memorable year was 2011 when he suffered a back to back loss against Jake Ellenberger at UFC Fight Night 25 in September 2011 via TKO and against Georges St. Pierre at UFC 129 main event in April 2011 via unanimous decision. Before 2011 on the other hand he was delighted with a 15 consecutive winning streak since he was in Kage Kombat in 2005 till his first bout under UFC against Martin Kampmann at UFC 121 in 2010.

His opponent Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley on the other hand; is no stranger to danger. He may only have 12 fights for his professional MMA career but these include 11 wins and only one loss. This welterweight from St. Louis, Missouri has recently knocked out Jay Hieron at UFC 156 Aldo versus Edgar in February 2013 in just 36 seconds of round 1. Woodley’s only defeat comes from Nate Marquardt back when he was at Strikeforce camp in July 20112 via knock out in round four. Woodley has defeated so many great fighters in his time like Zach Light, Rudy Bears, Nathan Coy, Jordan Mein and Paul Daley to name a few.

UFC 161 will also feature Dan Henderson versus Rashad Evans, Mauricio Rua versus Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Pat Barry versus Shawn Jordan, Sam Stout versus Isaac Vallie-Flagg and other formidable fighters. More news about UFC 161 will surely grace the web as this event inches closer in June.

It’s Mauricio Rua against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 161

It’s a light heavyweight bout this summer at UFC camp with a battle between Mauricio Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. UFC considers Rua and Nogueira as two if its best division fighters plus UFC also knows that fans just can’t wait for another light heavyweight clash soon.

The news of the event spread like wildfire and was already out as UFC 161 which will be held on June 15, 2013 at the MTS Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. This is the first time UFC airs from Manitoba and Canadian fans from the province are truly delighted.

To remember that Rua has already defeated Nogueira in June 2005 in Pride FC – Critical Countdown 2005; Rua won via unanimous decision.

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is a 31 year old light heavyweight from Curitiba, Parana, Brazil. He has a 21 win and 7 losses professional MMA career record. His last fight was a loss against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC on Fox 5 Henderson versus Diaz in December 2012 via unanimous decision. Before this loss were a series of wins and losses since he started at UFC in January 2007. He bas braved facing terrible fighters but was not lucky in achieving victory like Lyoto Machida, Jon Jones and Dan Henderson. But life was not that hard for Shogun; he has also won against great contenders like Brandon Vera, Forrest Griffin, Lyoto Machida (after he lost) Chuck Lidell and Mark Coleman.

On the other hand, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; he is 36 years of age with 21 wins and only 5 losses in his professional MMA career. His last fight was a win over Rashad Evans at UFC 156 Aldo versus Edgar in February 2013 via unanimous decision; before this win was also a victory and this was against Tito Ortiz in UFC 140 Jones versus Machida in December 2011 via technical knockout in just 3 minutes and 15 seconds of round one. But before these wins, Nogueira had 2 back to back losses: one was in September 2012 against Ryan Bader in UFC 119 and another one against Phil Davis in UFC Fight Night 24. Both win was via unanimous decision.
