It’s A Whole New Fight with Cain Velasquez as He Faces Antonio Silva at UFC 160

Cain Velasquez was interviewed via conference call to promote his next match against Antonio Silva which is scheduled on May 25, 2013. He has beat the impressive Brazilian before when they met at UFC 146 in May 2012 via technical knockout in just 3 minutes and 36 seconds of round one but this does not mean that he will take for granted their second match.

When asked about his expectations and preparations for this match, he replied: “This is a whole new fight. Obviously, we saw what Bigfoot can do in his past two fights.” He added: “You can’t take him lightly. He’s a tough competitor and really dangerous in the Octagon. I don’t see it as anything less than a hard, gruelling fight. That is what I am expecting.”

When Velasquez was asked about the most important thing about his fights: “To me, [defending the belt] is the most important thing, just hold onto it. This is the position I want to be in. I have to go out there and perform.” He also added: “As far as motivation, it’s there. A rematch is what it is. We fought before and you learn from that fight, but you can’t think too much of it.”

Cain Velasquez is a 30 year old heavyweight fighter from Salinas, California, USA. He holds an impressive record of 11 wins and only one loss. His latest win was against Junior dos Santos in a headline fight last December 2012 where he won via unanimous decision. This was their second matchup and during the first, dos Santos had the upper hand where he knocked out Velasquez in less than 4 minutes of round 1. This was Velasquez’s only loss. He has won over spectacular fighters like Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Ben Rothwell, Denis Stojnic and Brad Morris to name a few.

Antonio “Pezao” Silva on the other hand is a 33 year old fighter from Campina Grande, Paraiba, Brazil. He has a total of 18 wins and only 4 losses in his professional career. He has recently won over strong fighters like Alistair Overeem at UFC 156 and Travis Browne at UFC on FX 5. He has lost to Velasquez in 2012 via technical knockout.

UFC 160 will be on May 25, 2013 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
