STRIKEFORCE Heavyweight Champion Alistair “The Demolition Man” Overeem has re-injured a hand and will not be able to defend his title against Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California on Saturday, August 15.

The other three STRIKEFORCE world championship fights remain intact: Gina Carano will collide with Cris Cyborg in the main event and the first STRIKEFORCE women’s 145-pound championship fight in history.

Nick Diaz and Joe “Diesel” Riggs will revisit their bitter rivalry in the first-ever STRIKEFORCE welterweight (170 pounds) championship matchup and Josh “The Punk” Thomson will risk his lightweight (155 pounds) belt against former champion Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez.

A replacement bout for the scratched heavyweight fight will be announced soon.

Comments

  1. Ok enough is enough. I know it isn't Alistair's fault but its time to strip him of the title and have a mini heavyweight tourney for the belt.

    Breaking news FEDOR-BARNETT is off

Babyface failed a pre fight drug test.

New opponent for Fedor rumored to be Bobby Lashley or Vitor Belfort on 10 days notice no joke WTF.

  3. patrick bateman says:

Yes Miko they should strip him of title and give it to Brett Rodgers after all he KO'd AA

    Also Cung Lee too

  4. Vitor won't fight fedor…. period, though Lashley may do.

Cung lee is filming Tekken so he has a good excuse (more publicity = more money for the org)

  5. patrick bateman says:

your fucked mike Vitor is going to fight Fedor

  6. patrick bateman says:

    PERIOD

  7. Bret Roger should step in haha

  8. Shut up with all this Brett Rogers shit, FFS he hits hard and what else, NOTHING. He is a supersize Kimbo Slice, thats it.

  9. Cobra Clutch says:

Another problem with non-UFC MMA. It's not his fault he got hurt. Things happen, but with Barnett's drug issue and now with this injury, two great cards are now greatly disadvantaged right after the great momentum UFC 100 gave the sport. All we need now is for Gina to get wasted in the first round, and Fedor to destroy Vitor in the first round, and the sport then will have interest ONLY in the UFC.

On ESPN, they're already calling the sport "UFC" instead of MMA. Colin Cowherd on SportsNatiton said, "We should follow UFC more on this channel, because it's a growing sport." At least ESPN has their weekly web program where they talk about MMA with KenFlo.

And now we get a butter-faced octagon girl coming to the UFC on top of all this. (sigh)
