Affliction News: Vitor Belfort Dropped From Fight With Lindland On Oct. 11

By CagE | August 15, 2008

vitor belfort

After suffering a broken hand at “Affliction Banned“, Vitor Belfort will not be able to fight a the upcoming Affliction 2 “Day of Reckoning” show on Oct. 11, according to Affliction VP Tom Atencio in a interview with MMAWeekly radio.

“Vitor is out, I spoke with him I think yesterday and he told me. Actually, it was on Tuesday we had a conversation for about an hour or so and yeah, I guess he broke his hand in two places is what he told me and he had been having 2, 3 and 4 opinions on it. He finally got the opinion that he wanted I guess and they told him to step out for a while.”

This leaves little time for Affliction to find a replacement to fight Matt “The Law” Lindland on the Oct. 11th card.

Jake Shields spoke earlier in the week that his fight with John Alessio at “EliteXC Showdown” was not a done deal and he is currently fielding an offer by another promotion to fight a top 185lb fighter. Could Affliction be courting Shields to take on the “Law” on the main card? Here’s a clip of what Shields had to say:

“Right now I have a really good offer on the table to fight a top 185-pounder,” Shields stated. “I’m just waiting, hoping Elite (XC) will give me that opportunity to go out there and represent Elite and test myself.

the only interesting fight?i liked the match up but it probally would have been a boring fight with lindland controlling vitor the whole time, your not interested in barnett vs aa?plus i think shields vs lindland would be even better.

I think Vladdy/Little Nog could be good. I’d watch Shields/Lindland, both are very technical fighters.

At the end of the day though, regardless of the undercard, i’ll buy the PPV simply to watch AA take on Barnett. That should be a great, strategical fight.

jake shields is the best ww outside of the ufc,he could beat most of the guys in the ufc not named gsp he is a more well rounded fighter than belfort and could hang on the ground with lindland making for a better fight.

yeah shields should be brought into the UFC just so he can fight alves with the winner getting the winer of gsp vs penn.

not sayin that shields could hang with bj or gsp but he could beat the shit out of the wannabe top3’s in the divsion. Koscheck , Diego, Fitch,Karo…

  14. roy Says:
    August 15th, 2008 at 1:46 pm

he thinks he can hang with gsp, i am not sure about that either but i would love to see if he could.

Well if he keeps winning then it will eventually happen.

what the hell is happening to affliction fighters. they are losing all of their good matchups. they lost babalu, fedor, probably tito, and now vitor. i agree any lindland fight is probably going to be boring so i was hoping vitor would be able to fight. i hope barnett and arlovski still happens.

  17. Oswald Gobblecock Says:
    August 15th, 2008 at 6:13 pm

They didn’t lose Fedor for good and I didn’t know they lost Babalu.

  18. Morey Says:

Babalu signed on to fight in Strikeforce for the title instead of fighting for Affliction. Yeah, didn’t lose the fighters for good but they are losing a lot because of injuries. And Tito is hard to sign regardless.
