Affliction: Banned Hits Times Square

By CagE | July 1, 2008

affliction banned in New york time square

The Affliction marketing machine is in full effect, even going so far as to quote UFC President Dana White on a recent promotional poster (see below). Also, isn’t it funny that a huge MMA poster is sitting in New York’s Time Square, yet it is illegal to hold a MMA event in the state…gotta love capitalism.

“Affliction Banned”, the greatest MMA event ever staged, hit New York City’s Times Square last week, as the faces of ten of the sports biggest stars, including Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko (27-1) and his opponent Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia (24-4), filled a billboard along Broadway. All will appear on the July 19th event at Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and distributed live on Pay-Per-View.

“Considering the magnitude of this fight, and the partnership between Affliction and Donald Trump, it seemed only fitting that the huge talent pool on the ‘Affliction Banned’ show should be seen by millions in New York’s Times Square,” said Tom Atencio, Vice President, Affliction. “You know it’s a big show when you have a billboard on Broadway.”

“Affliction Banned,” presented by Affliction Entertainment, is so stacked with talent that it had to be separated into two live shows produced for broadcast. The night’s activities will kick off with a one-hour, free live telecast on FSN (Fox Sports Net) in the United States and on The Fight Network in Canada starting at 5 PM Pacific (8 PM/ET), dubbed “Affliction Live.” Following that is “Affliction Banned” — five incredible fights on pay-per-view starting at 6 PM/PT (9 PM/ET) via iN DEMAND, TVN, Shaw Communications, Viewers Choice Canada, DirecTV, DISH Network, Bell ExpressVue and Star Choice in the United States and Canada for a suggested retail price of $39.95.

Tickets for “Affliction Banned” range between $50.00 and $1,000.00, and are on sale at the Honda Center Box Office and also online at Ticketmaster.com.

Just curious on why you (tom) think Fedor is like Kimbo?

  8. Nichole Lesniak Says:

I was wondering the same naco….

    Fedor – well-trained, vast experience
    Kimbo – neither.

I like Fedors fight name The Last Emperor fits well and I doubt he will be assassinated anytime soon.

This should be better then Hong Man vs Fedor. Tim got the reach and knows how to use it most the time but Fedor is a beast. Unless hes really rusty I don’t see this going past the 2nd round max. Fedor submission an easy pick here.

I worried about my buddy Arlovski I hope he gets hes fire back this fight or its gonna be a ruff one.

We dis Kimbo enough here and trying to even bring up his name when we are talking about real MMA fighters and legends like Fedor is just unfair.

hell, I think since Kimbo brings up so much shit talking, he just shouldn’t be mentioned unless the thread is about him. Anyway, I agree about Fedor. I think he is great, but I know for a fact Dana doesn’t truely think that. I think Fedor will win by submission, I don’t think Sylvia will be good enough to use the reach advantage with him. Besides, Sylvia hasn’t really looked good lately at all.

It’s interesting that a few of those quotes are taken out of context or are just a wee bit dated.
It cheapens their promotion and they really don’t need to do that.

Yeah, they got those Ramp and Dana quotes from when Fedor was in talks about coming to the UFC. I can’t wait to watch this event. I think Fedor is going to prove his legend status against Silvia.

I’m going to be watching Anderson vs. Irvin instead….NOT.

  14. tom Says:

i said Fador is like KiMBO because all over mma for like the past year or 2 its all about fador and how great the guy is and how he cant be beat… naw he didnt fight top guy , well he started to then when pride died he died and didnt fight or fight top 10 guy and he was still ranked 1 in heavyweight and for pound for pound best.. which he isnt and i was calling him kimbo because they blow both there names up for no reason…

  15. tom Says:
    July 1st, 2008 at 4:42 pm

fedor—i hope tim knocks him out but idk i see a sub win
    arlovski
    barnett

    i hope Fedor kills Silvia … Tim sucks… always has …always will…

  17. tom Says:
    July 1st, 2008 at 5:25 pm

true tim does suck but hey so does fador come on a Middle weight called matt lindlands almost beat him.. like come on matt should have won the fight but big pussy fador just grapped the ropes and wouldnt let go

  18. Warrock Says:
    July 1st, 2008 at 8:55 pm

Do you really want silva to be the face of Affliction….Silva wins Afflictions losses….

  19. dave Says:
    July 1st, 2008 at 9:18 pm

THE FACE OF AFFLICTION….CAPTAIN AMERICA !!!!!

  20. dave Says:
    July 1st, 2008 at 9:20 pm

I am sure it will take a few minutes for any type of credible response. All good here

  21. steve Says:
    July 2nd, 2008 at 3:31 am

How can u say lindland almost beat him? Yeah fedor grabbed the rope but I dont think it mattered b/c if lindland had gotten the takedown he would have got caught in an armbar. Also its Sylvia not Silva.Tim does not suck but he is not on fedors level. As far as Ive seen nobody is.

  22. tom Says:
    July 2nd, 2008 at 7:33 am

Matt is a middle weight fador is a heavyweight?? fador hold on to the ropes like 10 times because matt would have TKO him by slam or ground and pound

  23. roy Says:
    July 2nd, 2008 at 8:52 am

matt did ok for a middle weight but no way was he going to beat fedor.

  24. Andre Says:
    July 2nd, 2008 at 9:13 am

Silvia is not in the same level as Fedor, come on his record speaks for its self , he destroyed everyone he fought in pride , silvia will not be the exception . expect a fedor win by armbar.

  25. steve Says:
    July 12th, 2008 at 12:42 am

Tom just read how u said Matt was gonna tko fedor by slam or ground and pound LMAO. Go back and watch fedors fight with Kevin Randleman. Now if he dont get KO’d by that slam then Lindland sure as fuck cant tko him by slam. And like Roy said he was never gonna beat Fedor. Fedor armbars just about anyone on top of him when he wants to. In his 2nd fight with Mark Coleman he said he wanted to wait to armbar him to get rid of some ring rust he was feeling. Now you tell me some heavyweights that have the skills to decide when to end the fight when they want like that.

    July 17th, 2008 at 12:07 am

tom, me thinks you not know what you talks about. yous says silly things and makes little senses.
fedor was off with the rope-grabs but that doesnt actually give you much leverage if you have ever fought, I was much more impressed by Linland’s nice first shot that got fedor bloody.
    or mes is sorry, fadors.
