The Versus sports network has signed a new contract with Zuffa LLC, extending its current agreement to air live WEC shows in its cable network. In the new agreement Versus will have the right to air two live UFC shows in 2010.
“We recognize that mixed martial arts is one of the fastest-growing sports genres … It’s bringing in a new audience that hasn’t watched us before [Versus]â€
The move positions Versus to draw in a new audience, which is much younger then its current average viewer age of 45.
The Comcast owned channel, it is currently on the third tier of Dish Network. So fans would have to subscribe to the highest basic cable package just to get Versus, as opposed to Spike which is a first tier channel.
Additional details of the deal are expected to be announced.
