Matt Hughes vs. Georges St. Pierre
Georges St. Pierre came out and took Matt Hughes out of his game. Hughes tried for a takedown and St. Pierre escaped easily. The best attack in the fight had to be the superman punch at the end of the first round that dropped Hughes. You know Matt Hughes is looking to get a rematch very soon, I would say this summer. These days you have to have a rematch to show it wasn’t just a fluke.
Tim Sylvia vs. Jeff Monson
What can I say, five rounds of boring no action. Tim Sylvia is impressive how athletic he is for being so huge. But I can’t stand how he just plays defence and ends up wearing his opponents down. Monson just couldn’t handle Sylvia’s size. First off Monson has like a one foot reach. When Monson had Sylvia in full guard, Monsons head only went to Sylvia’s stomach. I will give it to Sylvia he is always prepared for his opponents and can defend against a BJJ or a Striker.
Brandon Vera vs. Frank Mir
Brandon Vera came to fight. Vera made quick work of former heavy weight champion Frank Mir. Vera came out showing his boxing skills. He landed a couple of lounging strait punches that rocked Mir. Vera then secured the Thai clinch and landed a huge knee, dropping Mir to the ground. Once on the ground Vera landed a barrage of punches from side mount, the fight was stopped at 1:09 of the first round.
Alessio Sakara vs. Drew McFedries
Drew McFedries took this fight on short notice, after Wilson Gouveia dropped out. This fight turned out to be one of the best fights of the night. Both fighter standed and traded punches throughout the first round. McFedries came out aggressive early, but in the later round Sakara had the clear advantage over McFedries. McFredries was taking multiply hits to the head and looked dazed and tired. McFredries lands a couple of lazy punches and Sakara just laid down. Drew McFedries TKO in the first round.
Joe Stevenson vs. Dokonjonosuke Mishima
Joe “Daddy” Stevenson is one of the true forces in the lightweight division, since he cut down from the welterweight division. Stevenson is coming off a major win over Yves Edwards in UFC 61. He looked like he did in the Ultimate Fighter, lean and explosive. Stevenson final sinks a powerful guillotine choke, to end the fight in the first round.
