According to an official announcement from promotion officials at UFC last Monday, Matt Hamill’s original opponent Roger Hollett has suffered an injury. His new opponent for UFC 152 is Vladimir Matyushenko. This is a light heavyweight fight which will take place at Air Canada Center in Toronto on September 22; this fight will be headlined by flyweights Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson. And aside from these great fighters, there is a 185 – pound match up between Michael Bisping and Brian Stann.
It was not too long ago when Matt Hamill, who was born deaf, announced his retirement from MMA after a technical knockout defeat to Alexander Gustaffson at UFC 133; this was only Hamill’s second loss in the Octagon. Matt “The Hammer” Hamill is 35 years old a native of Loveland, Ohio. He has a 10 wins and 4 losses career with most of his wins via technical knockout or knockouts. This fighter however has been through tough victories against superb fighters like Tito Ortiz, Keith Jardine, Jon Jobes, mark Munoz and Reese Andy. Before he lost to Quinton Jackson in UFC 130 “Rampage versus Hamill” he had 5 consecutive wins. His fight against Matyushenko will certainly be a much awaited one as Hamill prepares to knock out “The Janitor” out of the ring.
But Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko will surely be a challenging opponent for Hamill. He is 41 years old from Retchisa, Belarus with 26 wins and only 6 losses in his career. Although the lost against Alexander Gustaffson in UFC 141 “Lesnar versus Overeem” in December 2011, he has impressive knockouts and technical knockouts victories against Jason Brilz in UFC 129 ‘St. Pierre versus Shields” in April 2011 and Alexandre Ferreira at UFC 122 “Marquardrt versus Okami” in November 2010. Over his long career as a professional MMA fighter, he has defeated great fighters like Jason Lambert, Tim Boetsch, Aaron Stark and Carlos Barreto to name a few. Since he began his career as a pro he has mastered impressive moves that will surely delight UFC fans as he faces Hamill for UFC 152.
Regarding the main event, Joseph Benavidez is a superb fighter with 16 wins and only 2 losses in his career. His last victory delivered a technical knockout punch to Yasuhiro Urushitani at UFC on FX 2. Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson on the other hand also has a thrilling 15 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw in his career.
