I hope Thiago KO's GSP. GSP always makes an excuse after a loss. He said Hughes was his idol in their 1st fight and thats why he lost. Well if you watch that fight, GSP was doing pretty good against Hughes, landing a good spinning back kick and looked comfortable the whole fight up until he was armbared and when Serra Tko'd him/made GSP tap. He said he had a lot on his mind. THe UFC greats like Chuck and Matt Hughes dont make excuses after a loss. Why cant he ever say i got caught and he was better than me that night? Maybe if GSP loses to Alves he can say that and not make an excuse. Maybe than i can give him a lil respect.
It's because he backs it up with kicking their ass so bad that you wonder why he lost in the first place, made them both look like complete garbage in the rematches. When he is mentally there he is nearly unbeatable at welterweight.
Yeah Bob like all of his recent opponents like BJ, Fitch, Serra and Hughes that said that they thought GSP was greasing himself down like a pig in between rounds. Are you calling all them liars or did he not cheat. That why I hate GSP, he's a cheater and a bitch.
I think alves has evovled now. he will be ready mentally also. GSP usually imposes his will and overwhelms guys. I think GSP is gonna frustate alvez. i see GSP submitting him in the 2 or 3 round. BUT if alvez can connect on GSP clean and rocks him GSP confidence will go away.
Jay, it's like Mike Tyson used to say "everybody's got a plan, until they get hit". Same goes for GSP. Look at every time someone has really rocked him. He crumbles. It's just rare that someone gets that chance…he's so…what's the word?…Oh yeah! SLIPPERY!
I still think that GSP is sharper on his feet. Its just that after the Matt serra loss he has been more careful and takes his time. Can he man handle Alves on the ground like he has to other fighters??
i think the question is can he get him on the ground…. then keep him there, Alves is like Bisping, getting him down is quite hard, keeping him there is harder. Although all said and done its harder to take Alves down.
Yeah, keep bringing up the grease-gate. Just because 'Pussy-Penn' got all butthurt over the fact that he can't hang with BIGGER FIGHTERS IN A DIFFERENT WEIGHT CLASS. He got owned standing and on the ground man. All the rest just used that as an excuse for getting outworked in the cage, jumped on the bandwagon and ran with it. This is coming from a huge matt hughes fan BTW. Anyway, I do predict Alves by TKO in R2. Alves should friggin fight middleweight FFS, he's huge. GSP probably won't be able to keep him down for GnP, and Alves will probably hit him hard enough to take control of the cage. GSP may have found his first opponent who is tailor made to destroy him.
Umm bob Matt serra also destroyed him but was not tailor made. GSP is a Black belt in BJJ and alves is not at the same level as GSP. GSP is a tactician. I also think GSP is a better technical striker than alves as well. BUT…..Alves has huge power in his hands and legs. He has to fight smart and use his skill. One thing is your big and powerful. But if Alves uses smarts and his power he can win also
That was a fluke, everybody knows it. Serra is a joke, end of. Just like Arlovski getting thrashed by rogers, a fluke punchers chance victory. Same thing. Anyway, the fight could go either way, but I see a few of GSP usual weapons being neutralized, I.E. His dominant wrestling, he isn't keeping Alves down like he did Fitch and Penn. We MAY see GSP bullied around this time. Just my opinion.
I do agree with you Jay on his much more tactical striking though, he really picks his spots now. Shoudl be a great fight.

GSP will probably be gun shy with alves he knows he has to get past Thiago's comfort zone. thiagos comfort zone is his lethal knees and axe like leg kicks. GSP can still get caught. He underestimated Matt serra and matt serra cauht him flush. I know it was a huge upset even i couldnt beleive it. But i do agree that GSP is 5 times better mentally and pysically and will bring his "A" game. Thiago better be ready
I really hope Alves KO's GSP. But, my prediction is GSP will do what he does since being KO'd by Serra and that is to take Alves down and grind him out and win in another boring GSP fight. GSP has weak chin and is scared of being KO'd again.

He only says those things in ""retrospect""..as to why did you lose to a guy who you beat up so bad afterwards??
