IMO you have to look at the champ from the absorbed org (first WEC and now Strikeforce) on a case by case basis. I do think that Diaz deserves this title shot just like Pettis does once Gray and Edgar finishe their business but this does not mean that incoming champs deserve a shot. When the UFC absorbed the LWT and MWT divisions a few years ago, Chael and Steve Cantwell were champs and they did not get a title match to unify the belt- and rightfully so. If the UFC ever obsorbs all of SF, I would like to Allistair and Melendez get automatic title shots but I am not so sure about Hendo or Jacare. I just think you have to look at them on a case by case basis and Carlos is a good fighter but I don[t disagree with him not getting an automatic shot when he came to the UFC.
I think its a matter of marketing more than who deserves a shot. Strikeforce coming in was a much more known and bigger acquisition than WEC. It just so happened that Condit got into the UFC when GSP was in the middle of clearing out much more marketable opponents. But Nick Diaz has a huge name, no way they would have passed that up.
