Sports Science breaks down the difference between the Muay Thai kick (Shogun) vs the Karate kick (Machida) with celebrity fighter Brandon Vera.
Is it just me or did that first kick look more like an awkward muay thai kick than a karate kick? Also, Brandon shuffled his feet on the second kick, making it take longer. I don't think the muay thai kick was represented very well here.
He turned the foot, brought the hip over, and hit the dummy's head with the same force as a Ray Lewis tackle…and delivered more power than the karate kick. How is that not a good representation of a Muay Thai kick? Vera knows how to throw a Muay Thai kick.
What's with all the haters on the boards today? It's Friday…be happy. And Machida/Shogun II is tomorrow. It's a great weekend!
Definitely wasn't trying to hate on Vera; dude has some sick Muay Thai. I just thought his first kick may have been more powerful than a more conventional Karate kick (where they don't step out with the front foot and they don't pivot until after their knee comes straight up to the chest). I'm not claiming to be an expert or anything, I just expected the Muay Thai kick to be more like twice as powerful rather than just 21% more powerful.
1 × = six
