The UFC has tried a Tournament in the past, but Fighters were getting injured (Gracie) even in victory and it screwed everything up.

Timmie- pretty much every MMA should have heard of Big Foot Silva so I am not sure if you are a casual fan or not but he is known. He is probably best known for failing a PED test but he has put together a pretty good record fighting outside of the UFC. In a tournament format, unless there is some sort of random draw, you put one of the best fighters in the tourney against one of the worst ones so that you are not having what could be the championship match in the first round. So is he incredible…absolutely not but he is OK.
Ural – they are not politicians, lawyers, or Executives. They are fighters. Is that really what stood out the most to you about this video, picture, story? Pretty interesting.

If CageToday is the sole source of your MMA news then you would not know about him, since we pretty much only discuss UFC and Strike Force here.
Silva is a pretty good HW who has fought in Elite XC, EXC, BoDog, Heros and a couple others. I think he fought for a while at Super HW. He is not a top tier fighter, but has the skill, strength, and size to be a threat in the ring and compete with any HW in MMA.
